In 977, a small farming village in Heian Period Japan faces a dangerous "oni" - a bear controlled by a red and black symbiote. A villager orders his daughter Kaya to flee with the other children to the capital and seek aid from the samurai. Despite her father's bravery, Kaya knows that the adults will not survive. As the oni crashes through the village gate, a young boy her age kicks it in the face, pushing it back. Apologizing for his lateness, the boy introduces himself as Kintaro, a soon-to-be renowned samurai. As the oni begins to regenerate, Kintaro instructs the villagers to stay back and reveals he is also possessed by an "oni," named Clinter. Ordering his symbiote to awaken, Kintaro begins his transformation and declares that it's time to feast.
