Warlock and the Infinity Watch #37

"Body and Soul!" Warlock initially believes the apparition he continually sees is a hallucination caused by his yearning for Maya. However, it sharpens into the figure of Firelord, who recounts how his life force was stolen by a seemingly friendly man on an alien world as soon as trust was given. Warlock agrees to assist, absorbing Firelord's spirit into the Soul Gem, and instructs Pip to transport the Infinity Watch to the assailant's location, as revealed in Firelord's recollections. They arrive in Pittsburgh, where the perpetrator first attempts to flee but, when trapped, identifies himself as Zakaius, the executioner of sinners. Declaring Warlock marked for death, Zakaius engages the Watch with his mystical powers. A stray bolt from Zakaius inadvertently sets a fuel truck ablaze, and he pauses, aghast at the chaos he has caused. Meanwhile, on the distant world of Luarei, inhabitants find Firelord's body and, mistaking him for their ancient royalty, begin to arrange a funeral befitting a king.
